Residents Reflect on the Night’s Rumbling Tremor

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake sent vibrations through San Bernardino County on Thursday night, leaving residents wondering about its impact.

On Thursday night, at approximately 11:38 p.m., a 3.8 magnitude earthquake jolted the San Bernardino County area, prompting residents to question: “Did you feel it?”

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicenter was located about 2 miles southeast of Ontario, near the Ontario International Airport.

The tremor, with a depth of around 7.4 miles, caused no immediate injuries or structural damage, as reported by the USGS.

Photographs taken following the incident reveal the minor impact the quake had on the area.

Despite its moderate magnitude, the earthquake served as a reminder of California’s seismic activity. While most tremors are minor, the state experiences hundreds of earthquakes a3-8-magnitude-earthquake-shakes-san-bernardino-countynnually, with dozens surpassing a magnitude of 3.0.

The strongest earthquake ever recorded in California, measuring 7.9 magnitude, struck Fort Tejon on Jan. 9, 1857, according to the California Department o3-8-magnitude-earthquake-shakes-san-bernardino-countyf Conservation.

Residents can remain informed about seismic events by utilizing KTLA’s interactive map,  which tracks the latest earthquakes in Southern California.

For individuals who experienced the tremor, the USGS encourages filling out the Felt Report online, providing valuable data for earthquake research and preparedness efforts.

The incident underscores the importance of earthquake awareness and preparedness in California’s seismic landscape.
